MinEx clarifies that air quality code applies to quarries, alluvials

Posted on 7 June 2016

MinEx says proposed regulatory codes for air quality need to be more explicit about including quarries and alluvial mines.

It also says the proposed regulations should be made clearer by structuring them in accordance with risk management processes for each type of operation, better differentiating between underground mines and surface mines as well as quarries.

The health and safety council for extractives lays out the recommendations in its submission Air Quality: Managing Dust and Other Airborne Contaminants on the draft code of practice. Consultation closed at the end of May and the code is still being developed by WorkSafe.
