Training
MinEx works to support the provision of good quality training. It has established a Training Advisory Group to ensure that training for mining and quarry operators fit the needs of the industry.
In the wake of the Pike River tragedy, the Government has introduced a new health and safety regime for all workplaces, not least the mining and quarry sector.
Any mine or quarry has to be operated by someone with a Certificate of Competence - a CoC. There are A and B grade CoCs. There are new requirements to update CoCs and to take part in Continuing Professional Development, CPD. Read the guidelines here.
MinEx works with organisations including MITO who is the training organisation for our sector.
MITO provides on the job training and career pathways through their NZQA approved qualifications.
Training is delivered by a range of providers in various locations around NZ and can be arranged through MITO, Tai Poutini, Mines Rescue and ACT Safety.
These organisations can arrange training for everything from entry level positions through to operations, supervision and management.
You can find out more about mining and quarry qualifications through MITO.
You can visit the NZ Government Connected website page which details all that’s available to employers and workers from all arms of government across jobs and training. There are also 35 Connected centres around the country with specific staff who can assist.
